● Truly balanced phono input interface:
Two pairs of inputs can be used for balanced (two pairs of XLR) or single-ended (two pairs of RCA) inputs. The so-called "balanced" refers to a system in which the audio signal is transmitted through two symmetrical conductors that are shielded and neither are grounded. When using the XLR input port, the R50 appears as a true balanced interface, and when the input port is switched to RCA, the R50 appears as a single-ended interface.
When the micro signal of the phono is input to the R50 through the XLR port, it will not carry interfering signals such as hum, RF (radio frequency) noise through the shielding layer (ground wire), or expose the signal to the ground wire in some form. Can make the sound clearer.
A true balanced interface for preamps is a huge step forward over previous common designs. Designing a high-performance balanced system always presents a number of technical challenges, and in the R50, all limitations have been completely overcome.
Both inputs (XLR or RCA) can be configured as MM or MC ports via (MC or MM) load cards, which can support two different cartridges on a phono or with two different cartridges (MM/MC). ) of the phono connection.
● Secondary Audio Filter:
To achieve the best possible sound even with warped old records, the R50 uses a linear phase filter that does not affect audible frequencies to filter out secondary audio.
● Selectable input resistance/input capacitance:
The input resistance of the MC port can be adjusted by a switch on the phono load card so that it can be impedance matched to any phono cartridge. Likewise, the input capacitance of the MM port (resistance is a fixed 47KΩ) can be adjusted through the switch on the MM load card. The corresponding sensitivity of different input terminals is automatically set by the cartridge load card.
● Selectable amplifier gain:
The gain of the R50 can be set to high, medium or low through the gain switch, and the difference between the three different gains is 6dB. By setting the gain switch, the output volume of the R50 can be adapted to the usual volume position of your preamplifier. When using modern low-output cartridges, it is recommended that you set the gain to the High position. The Low position can be used for high-level cartridges to ensure that the preamp input stage is not overloaded.
